There is a great publication from the National Institute on Drug Abuse that can be obtained for free.  The complete title is,  DRUGS, BRAINS, AND BEHAVIOR : THE SCIENCE OF ADDICTION .   The following is page 28, copied with permission from this 36 page publication. It deals with the need to treat the whole person, not just the physicality of chemical dependency.
