In a new book coming out soon Andre Agassi claims to have lied to the ATP tour officials in 1997 when he had failed a drug test. Then he had said that he accidentally drank a soda spiked with meth that had belonged to his assistant “Slim”. In the book he acknowledges that he took it on purpose and describes the feelings it gave him at the time.

It is interesting to note that he won a gold medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. But by late 1997, he dropped to No. 141 in the rankings.  He did revive his career in 1998 an went on to be #1 in 1999. Andre retired from tennis in 2006.

Will this revelation of drug use change public opinion of him?  Time will tell.
